How to improve performance even more and fix the audio crackling:

Option 1 (if you're still using Windows XP):
--------------
1. Disable Cool'N'Quiet in the BIOS <--- very important
2. Set the Windows XP power profile to 'High Performance' ('Always On' / NO power saving)
3. Install the latest processor driver for your CPU (download it from http://support.amd.com)
4. In the Dolphin Audio settings, set the audio backend to 'DSound' instead of 'XAudio2'.

Option 2:
-------------
Upgrade to Windows 7.

* The processor driver that comes with this OS is a whole lot better (no core underclocking issues with AMD CPUs, power saving features work correctly, better performance).

* Superior sound quality and less problems with onboard/integrated audio chips.

What?

Xaudio2 is part of directx. And we already have an xaudio2 backend.

What?

No. You would have slow sound in certain spots when the gamespeed dropped.

I don't know why there are so many people in this thread that seem to think you should be able to run this game at fullspeed all the time. With my Q6600 @ 3.2GHz I get drops as low as 20 fps in sonic colors even on the fastest builds/settings. And my cpu is substantially faster than yours.

Just get a sandy bridge cpu and overclock.
