Right now I'm considering two possibilities for CPU upgrades, with the focus on Dolphin performance. On one hand, there is the dual core i7 640m, clocked at 2.8Ghz per core and turbo freq is 3.46Ghz, and on the other hand, there is the i7-920 processor, with each clock at 2.13Ghz, and turbo freq at 3.33Ghz.

Now, with just those specs, it would seem that the 640m would be the obvious winner, but it's not that easy- the 940xm has an 8mb cache, whereas the 640m only has 4mb. I have also heard about people being able to increase the clocks of the first two cores of the 940xm by a LOT, so I'm really not sure, since I'm no expert on this stuff.

Could some people with better knowledge on these two CPU's please weigh in on the matter?

Please note that these are not Sandy Bridge, as I want to get a M17x R2.

Isn't the 940xm a lot more expensive? They should perform roughly the same.
