I want to play some GameCube games on my PC and I am looking for a GameCube controller to use.

According to these forums, the Retrolink GameCube controller isn't ideal (R and L analog not working etc.).

Do you have any alternate suggestions?

I think it would be best if you bought the original GameCube controller and a Wii U adapter with it. It should work with Dolphin.
You can find the controller and adapter on this page: https://wiki.dolphin-emu.org/index.php?title=Recommended_Accessories
Sure, it's a bit expensive, but the controller is directly from Nintendo.

I agree with InTransparent. When I took up Gamecube gaming when I bought my Wii, I went through a few third party controllers and was very disappointed. Once I bought a Wavebird, I never looked back. That said, I like my xbox 360 controller as a replacement so there is that option.

Use a genuine GameCube controller. Thanks to Smash brothers, you can get them BRAND NEW! Use it with the Nintendo or Mayflash Wii U adapter and your'e good to go.

Definitely use the genuine Gamecube controller. Not only does it have the absolutely best build unlike any other 3rd party gamecube controller. But with the official Wii U gamecube adapter or Mayflash one the PC pulls inputs from a controller just like a regular console would so there is absolutely no input lag. Unlike emulating a controller which causes lag.
