It depends on what game you want to play.
The ASUS I have in my signature cost me about 500$ and is fine for most of my games in 720p (2x IR), many games are smooth even in 1080p (3x IR). But of course big games like Mario Galaxy will have slowdowns on some areas. I don't even talk about heavy games like The Last Story.
