It was with, LLE, new-ax-HLE or old HLE?
Is Vsync ON or OFF?
Which game?

Happens on any game, HLE or LLE. Happens on Zelda ucode games too so it's probably nothing to do with the differences between the new-ax-hle merges and the old AX ucode HLE implementation. The only thing different I'm experiencing is the fact that it goes away after 1:45~1:50 minutes of gameplay. VSync has nothing to do with it; I leave it off for Xenoblade Chronicles but on for Tales of Symphonia, and I still get the static. It used to be pretty bad, but it's not very noticeable for me these days.

Holding the tab key temporarily disables frame limit, can't put my finger on it's correlation in all this.

@haddockd - Whoops, missed your post. Yes, as Zee530 said, the Tab key disables the framelimit. All I have to do is press it for like a second, then audio returns to normal, for a short time however. If I listen a minute later, it's still there. It's a stop-gap for me until it properly goes away on its own.

Interesting workaround. I wonder what skid's thoughts are on this.

I am going to give this a test when I have time. It hopefully gives the devs a clue as to what the issue may be.

Is this an issue that everyone gets but they're just not running dolphin for long enough or does it only affect certain configurations?

That is quite possible but I am unsure. I think skid suspected it was related to frame rate dropping but when I showed him/her my fps counter, etc as it happened I think skid felt that may not be the case. If the tab key unlimits framerate and the issue goes away, perhaps it is indeed related....

I think it has something to do with the number of frames being processed rather than the frames per second. I always run every game at 60fps, and the static always come in right at 90 minutes, maybe it takes longer if you're getting slowdowns because it takes a longer time to process the same number of frames as it would if it were 60fps all the time.
