I have Dolphin 5.0, and I've been running it for months with no problems. The last time I played Dolphin has been 2 or 3 weeks and the sound was working just fine. I started it up today to enjoy some Chibi Robo and it had no sound. I hadn't tried this dump yet so I decided to try Melee, and it had no sound either. I have played this dump before on Dolphin 5.0 and know that the sound worked just fine on it. I tried most of my dumps and none had sound. I tried changing practically every sound setting on Dolphin to no avail, and it's not just my PC either, as I was listening to music a minute before with no problem and am listening to music right now with no problems. I haven't changed any hardware or hookups on my PC. I've tried restarting my PC with no results either. Any ideas?

Thanks

I have DSP HLE emulation, and OpenAL with a latency of 2 in Dolphin.
I checked my Windows audio settings to make sure nothing went AWOL and it was all in line in the way I use my PC. Tested several programs and all worked fine.

Just checked (using built in Audio control panel) while having a game loaded up and it showed no sound. Checked again with music playing from Groove and it showed up.

While experimenting, I tried having a song playing through Groove and having the Audio Control Panel up when starting a game on Dolphin. It stops the music on Groove with an error "We can't find an audio device. Make sure headphones or speakers are connected. For more info, search your device for "Manage audio devices."" but Dolphin still plays no sound and the Control Panel shows no sound. I then click to play another song on Groove while Dolphin and a game are open and the song plays just fine.
EDIT: It's like Dolphin tries to take control and play sound but fails.
EDIT 2: Tried plugging my headphones in and the sound worked. This would be great if my PC didn't sit about 4 feet away and if my Headphone cable was longer than 2 feet.
EDIT 3: Xbox One Controller to the rescue! Plugged it in by USB and plugged in headphones to it and nice sound quality is coming through! Would still like my speakers to work but this is a fine replacement. Thanks for reading

I would set your default audio and communication device to your speakers with dolphin closed then open.

I tried setting them to default with no results. After plugging in multiple audio devices to try, the main speakers are the only ones that won't work, so I'm using some backup speakers now.

Does the speaker connection matter? (aka usb, 3.5mm etc.)
