Hello everyone,

I am having trouble with sound in LoZ Wind Waker. There is no music at all, not even on the start screen, and limited sounds only (footsteps, wind, splashing, but little else).

Note: I think the problem first occurred after using the "Fix item hang" patch to get past a black screen in Forsaken Fortress at the beginning of the game. I have unchecked the patch, but the music has not been restored.

I have already tried the recommended DSP LLE solution. I used DSP LLE in Dolphin 3.0, so I transferred the exact same files when I upgraded to 3.5. I have the boot.dol, dsp_coef.bin, and dsp_rom.bin files in my Sys/GC folder.

I also selected the additional audio settings (DSP LLE on Thread and Dump Audio) separately and together with no effect.

I tried switching Audio Backend to OpenAL, but nothing happened. XAudio2 doesn't load at all.

So I'm stuck! Does anyone have any other recommendations or solutions?

Thanks for any help!

Lauren

Thank you for trying! I looked at this thread before.

Okay, I've made a little progress.

I have moved the DSP LLE files from Sys/GC to User/GC. Now the music is playing okay on the loading screen. I also have more sounds (sword sounds and bomb sounds) but once the game begins the music and sound effects are very choppy.

Still using DSP LLE Recompiler. DSP LLE on Thread and Dump Audio are unchecked.

Try extracting a new copy of the emulator to a new folder. Don't copy anything from your old dolphin folder over. Then run the game. Do you get sound? If so then just copy over the memcard and dsp files. Also don't use savestates they are known to cause problems.

Yeah, I haven't used any save states, always memory card saves.

I just installed Dolphin 3.5 brand new this evening. Memcard and DSP files were the only files I transferred from 3.0 to 3.5. I haven't touched any of the other files in Dolphin 3.5.

Do you think I should try transferring the Memcard again? When I first loaded the save point from the game I started on 3.0 in 3.5, I was in the Forsaken Fortress and still had fine sound. However, after I used the the "Fix item hang" patch to get past the cut scene there, I had problems with sound. If I re-copy that Memcard, I could probably go back to that point, but I don't know how to deal with the cut scene issue if it means losing the audio.

Thanks for your help!

This. And don't use "Fix Item Hang" either. You're likely to get issues too.
Btw this hack is pretty useless if you're using LLE.

Use the save you made before using "Fix Item Hang" and use LLE

Choppy audio is simply an unfortunate side-effect of LLE (and HLE in most games) being so damn accurate that it chops when you're not running the game at full speed. To fix this, just use the OpenAL audio backend - it timestretches audio to smooth it out. (Unfortunately, it also has audio latency issues that infuriate me.)

Also dont use LLE on Thread with this game as it causes crashes (at least it consistently does for me with 3.5).

I'm still pretty stuck on this one. Made a little progress, but then ended up right back to where I started. No music and only minimal sound effects.

I am not using the "Fix Item Hang" patch anymore, since that seemed to cause some interference.

Here are my current checked audio settings:

DSP LLE recompiler
Dolby Pro Logic II decoder
OpenAL (Latency=16)

Anything you (or anyone else) can recommend?

Thanks so much for your help!

Assuming you've been using the build you mentioned in your profile (3.5-367) that means you dumped your own DSP files right? So it might be an issue with your DSP files. We never know.
Anyway here's what you're gonna do:
- Use one of the latest builds. The one you've been using is old and comes from the old website. Get your builds here from now on http://dolphin-emu.org/download/?ref=btn .
- Don't move your own DSP files from the old build to the new one. In recent builds a free DSP is provided so you can use LLE without any dumps (it's supposed to work with most games). Now try the game and tell us if you noticed any difference
