I've got an old x-fi extreme music edition and/or startech usb audio chipset I could send to someone. I haven't read through this thread and don't plan too anytime soon so for the record I have no idea what issue you guys are talking about.

I have an old Nvidia 9800 GTX video card but no dedicated audio devices unfortunately.

NaturalViolence,

I would be interested in trying out those devices. PM me the details and we will see what we can work out.

What chipset are you using right now (or what chipsets have you tried)?

Not sure exactly what you mean. The only audio devices on this machine are:
HDMI audio on my ATI 6970
Mobo onboard HD Audio which is Realtek (according to MSI, here are the specs on it):
- Chipset integrated by Realtek® ALC898
- Flexible 8-channel audio with jack sensing
- Compliant with Azalia 1.0 Spec

The mobo chipset is Z77

Creative X-Fi XtremeMusic Edition: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829102188

I also have an Audigy (I think it's an audigy II? I'll check when I get home) and some REALLY old ones that probably aren't even supported on a modern OS.

That's your onboard chipset. I'm not sure what chipset the AMD HD6970 uses but I'll look it up.

Well I cant seem to find that. All I could dig up was:

Integrated HD audio controller
Output protected high bit rate 7.1 channel surround sound over HDMI with no additional cables required
Supports AC-3, AAC, Dolby TrueHD and DTS Master Audio formats

If you are willing to send those items for testing I would be happy to work out the details with you. Let me know Smile

Hmmm. I'm not finding any documentation. This might be a lot to ask of you but if you could open the card and write down all of the names listed on top of the black chips (except the ram chips of course) I would appreciate it. One of them will be the DSP and the exact chip should be listed on the packaging.

NV he is on a laptop so he would have to completely take the laptop apart to get to that info. I have tried both the built in realtek chip and my Creative X-FI Extremegamer and they both have the same audio issue after a few hours of playing. The audio start to badly echo and it just makes it unplayable for me when I am playing games like skies of Arcidia and ToS(GC) that rely on voices.

I am on a laptop?

Clearly my specs in my sig indicate that is not the case...

Anyways,

NaturalViolence, I did find this, hope it is helpful:
The Pericom PI3HDMI4 chip controls the HDMI and DVI interfaces.

http://benchmarkreviews.com/images/reviews/video_cards/R6950-Twin-Frozr-III/MSI_R6950_Twin_Frozr_III_Power_Edition_PI3HDMI4.jpg

My card has an aftermarket cooler with lots of separate cooling parts that would be a gigantic PITA to remove.

Also since mine is truely a modded 6950, I found these closeup pics for reference. Hope they are helpful:

If the issue occurs with an extremegamer card for topken then I guess we can forget the audio card idea.

What triggers this issue and what builds does it occur on?
