Audio Backend Issues

I can't seem to change any of the settings for audio backend under configuration. It's currently stuck on CoreAudio, and I can't change it whatsoever- it's grayed out and unclickable. I'm using the "quick and dirty" settings listed on the link below except for DSound, which as mentioned before I can't get to. I've already looked through the forum a few times and found nothing on it, so I apologize if this has already come up and I missed the thread. Is my operating system not able to handle it, or did I screw something up?

Note: I'm using an OS X 10.8.4 with a 2.5 GHz Intel Core, and I'm running Dolphin 4.0. Not sure if that helps- it's my first time on this forum, so please excuse me if I'm being redundant or missing something.

Oh, and the link is:

OS X only has Core Audio and OpenAL available as audio backends. There may be some trick to getting OpenAL on OS X? I don't know, since I haven't used a Mac in over a decade :p

Anyway, DSound and XAudio2 are Windows only. Why are you looking to change this setting anyway? Aside from the timestretching OpenAL does, CoreAudio should be sufficient for most OS X users, so it's not terribly important to change the audio backend.

The only reason I was looking to change it was because the sound has been skipping on the game I'm playing any time a cutscene comes up, so I figured audio settings were my best bet at a starting place to fix it.

Sound will skip, stutter, or sound "choppy" if you can't run a game at fullspeed. Your CPU is fairly weak for Dolphin, so unless you're running non-demanding to average games, you'll encounter audio issues like that frequently.

Okay, thanks for letting me know. On the bright side, I haven't had any visual problems yet so I can always turn off the volume or something.
Thanks!

OpenAL works perfectly fine for me. You can't change the audio backend while a game's running, that's probably what you're running into.
