Intel have discovered a manufacturing defect in the Cougar Point ICH that causes progressive deterioration of the SATA 3Gb hub over a period of time in mainboards based on the P67/H67 chipsets.

The result is increasing CRC rechecks and decreasing performance.

Please contact your mainboard manufacturer for repair or replacement details.

I don't see how this is a "small hiccup"... it's going to cost them a lot of money. Anyway, it's nice that they recognize the problem and are dealing with it.

not such a big deal, just plug your sata drives into your sata III slots instead of your sata IIs. Keep using the board until just right before your warranty is up, then get a new mobo replacement Big Grin

got the sabertooth p67. it has 4 Sata III slots Smile

since i only got 2 sata devices (dvd, hdd) no big deal for me. still not nice to know that u have probably 4 faulty sata ii slots.

I've been keeping tabs on this news and watching for updates. What a prickly situation. This is one of those circumstances where early adopters got screwed over pretty badly.

The issue in and of itself isn't major and can be largely resolved by sticking with the SATA 6 Gbps ports, but for the less-knowing, it's bound to cause hell. Most sites (i.e. Newegg) have already removed all motherboards, processors, and OEM builds that utilized the Sandy Bridge architecture.

This isnt a big deal, just keep your motherboard until it fails.

Supposedly only some of the chips are bad, and the ones that are bad fail over time.

If you really wanted to you could just install a 2 or 4 port pci express sata card.

If anything this makes owning a p67 with sandy bridge combo even cooler since you can no longer purchase one.

I LOVE my new p67 motherboard. Im wont be trading it in for replacement ever, and god forbid if I fry it, im totally covered. Get out of jail free card. BTW Im using all 6 sata ports and I have been transfering large files between my six hard drives, no problems on any ports.

Oh one last thing, the ports failing does not in any way damage the drives, so just have main drives plugged into sata 3, and storage drives plugged into sata 2.

the statistics used to test for this are flawed.

All mobo's using the Rev B chips are affected
All mobo's will suffer from increasing degradation (and not on a linear scale) where the Sata 3Gb ports are used.

Considering high density hard drives have thier own issues (cost vs density one of them) its not unusual for all sata ports to be used.
