i think the comp uses the graphics cards separatley (like discrete graphics)

my laptop can use intel integrated as standard (saves battery) but i set games and media player classic to use the nvidia graphics

you can use both video cards...
i got a old ati 7xxx PCI (not pci-e)
and a geforce 7800 (agp)
i used the 2 extra vga outputs for multimonitoring
long time ago

You could do this since Win98 (but not Vista). Matrox+3dfx FTW.
