Hi, this issue has baffled me for a long time, but I honestly thought it was my older controllers and computer..

Now I have a brand new laptop and 2 brand spanking new controllers as of today,

an xbox one S/X series bluetooth, and an 8bitDo SN30 Pro 2. But.....

The exact same issue persists!

First a quickie, I have never understood why Dolphin has a config section for L and R button PLUS L & R triggers.. My GC controllers only have analog L and R buttons/triggers.. Should I just ignore the L and R and only configure the triggers? (I have profiles doing both).

The main issue is that many games do not work properly with analog triggers for me, with either controller. Analog sticks and every other button work fantastic.. low latency, responsive.. but to give you an example

1) In Defender, if I fully depress the trigger, it stops accelerating the craft completely.. I was so perplexed by this I pulled out my Gamecube and re set it up, and indeed, with the trigger fully depressed it's supposed to accelerate. In Dolphin, I can only accelerate if I have the trigger in any position BUT completely depressed. The fix for this is to put threshold at 100%. I thought the issue was over..

2) In 007 From Russia with Love, if I select a target with the left trigger, when I press the right trigger it cycles through various targets rather than firing. I have to literally let go of the left trigger completely, the aim reticle disappears and only then can I fire with the right trigger!

I just don't know how to fix it - I do try work things out before I bother anyone, and I searched on this believe me and found no solution. I am sure it's going to affect driving games and such as well, but I am still in the process of ripping my original game discs and it's big job and I only have around 10 done now and these are the two with the most prominent problems. Happy to keep a record of more games as I dump them.

Any advice appreciated, a huge thanks in advance.

The triggers on a GameCube controller are actually both digital and analog! You already know about the analog part, but there's also a switch that gets triggered when you push the trigger all the way in that gives cause to a digital input. While it may not seem like two separate inputs to you as the user, they are two separate inputs from the console's point of view.

Map both L and L-Analog to LT, and R and R-Analog to RT.

Hi, thanks for such a prompt reply, I have just done precisely as you suggested, and it doesn't work, well not with those two games in any case. The problems I have mentioned persist. Could I have discovered a bugaboo in Dolphin's X input?

Seriously, I can repeat this 100% of the time with three controllers now, all x input. I have an 8bitdo G.bros, so I'll try my real GC controller soon and hopefully that will be better (I'll let y'all know) Please note, this problem has been following me for years, and now onto a brand new computer with a fresh Dolphin install - with literally brand new controllers! Previously, I always mapped both the buttons and triggers as you suggest above. What I was trying to say in my original post was that just for a quick test today I tried another way, by just mapping the L-Analog and R-Analog, thinking it might solve the issue (which of course it didn't lol). We can literally scrap that part out of the discussion and just know from now on I am mapping both L and L-Analog to my left trigger, and both R and R-Analog to my right trigger. It is reassuring to know that I was doing it correctly all along, as that *could* mean there is a bug that can be found. Hopefully.

I have to be straightforward with you all.. Things are difficult for me at present physically, as I have quite a serious injury that will be with me perpetually and will only get worse with time, and I am often confined to my laptop and my bed. This is why preservation of my games is so important to me, more than ever, and why I splashed out on a nice portable setup - I just don't have the physical ability to bend down behind televisions any more, muck about with cables, etc.. let alone the room.. What I am trying to build here is a complete back up station of every game I legally own of various consoles (and I actually get my tech friend to help me with this, he is helping me dump all my discs, bit by bit, console by console), to basically have this little laptop as a hub of everything I ever owned. Many games won't work with various emus, but many do, and to tell you the truth, I'd be going insane right now if I didn't have all this retro gaming to occupy my time. So bear with me if I disappear, or seem incoherent, it really depends on the day, but I will always do my best to listen and implement any and all troubleshooting advice.

Just trust me when I say I have seriously spent time on this over the past few years.. At this point I'll
1) Try my gamecube controller(s) tomorrow after a good rest tonight
2) Failing that, once more of my analog reliant games are dumped, i.e. all my racers and such, I will test them all and make a comprehensive list of which games do not respond properly to analog input

Still, I need help. Ideas. Is there a controller for example, that someone here uses that they KNOW works perfectly for gamecube emulation in Dolphin? I find the wired real controller to be a cumbersome idea and only going to try it out of desperation. Last time I tried my real GC controller with the Wii U adapter, it was a nightmare, and I have just used x input since. If there is something that definitely works, I'll buy it! Pronto!

But..
if someone who owns either or 007 from Russia with love, or Defender, perhaps they can check and see
1) can you fire with the right trigger in 007 when the left trigger is aiming/targeting
2) Can you move the ship forward in defender when the right analog trigger is fully depressed.

It could be these are GAME bugs with Dolphin which is why I really really need someone to test at least one of those games.
If they can get it working, that means it's my setup and controllers at fault, which is fixable. If they reproduce the issues and it's a Dolphin bug, again it's probably fixable down the line.

Sorry for the long post but I just wanted to explain everything properly and hope I have done that, and sincerely hope someone has a bit of time to do some testing for me.

An Update... the Xbox Elite Series 2 has trigger locks, so I have put them at the highest lock settings, i.e. for all intents and purposes the triggers are now digital in action. This has fixed the issue for 007 with the threshold at the default 90%. But now I can not move the ship in defender whatsoever. It's just permanently stationary.
However if I set the threshold to 100% I can play that game.
I was able to achieve similar results with the SN30 Pro 2 by using the ultimate software and setting the maximum analog trigger actuation point far before the full press.
I am still very confused but I can play those two games for now. This weekend after I test with some other games we'll finally be dumping, I'll have more to report. I have never had issues with double dash which has digital acceleration anyway, which along with Auto Modellista and Rogue Squadron 2 are the only other dumped games I have for now, and have been playing for the last 5 years since I first ever tried Dolphin. I haven't dumped smash or Sunshine (uses analog triggers) or any of those yet, so will see if I have any more issues down the line. Auto Modellista has one level digital acceleration but you can assign it to the triggers (still digital), so if all games were affected, that one wouldn't accelerate at all either like defender.. but out of 5 games, only 2 have had this specific issue thus far. Cheers

Sorry to bump but I still don't understand how anyone is playing games that use the triggers in dolphin.

All new laptop, a Lenovo now as my Razer died and the initial reseller ended up refunding me as after 2 months and over 100 support emails, Razer hadn't fixed it, I am sure I was talking to a bot the entire time as all we did was go around in circles for months (long story).

Legion 7i 2021 model

All new controller, Gulikit King Kong Pro 2

All Fresh Dolphin Install of latest Beta version

New Windows 11 Install with the 22H2 update

64Gb Ram
All SSD setup throughout

3070M again but this time the max P variant

All 8 cores of processor locked at 4.3ghz with no thermal throttling even at 100% load

Exactly the same thing as always.

I do precisely what the dev tells me.. I map both right button and right trigger to the right trigger of the controller and ditto with left button and left trigger to left trigger of controller.

Depending on the game, it either doesn't work at all or behaves weirdly

I *think* I have narrowed it down to games that use the triggers for digital functions rather than analog (that's a lot of games).

Can someone PLEASE explain to me
Just one person please

What controller they use and how they set it up?

I just don't understand this at all.

That's over 3 computers now (the oldest one, an Alienware, had windows 10)

and I have tried every single controller I have (5 various ones).

The only thing I guess I haven't tried is my dual shock 4... maybe that will work in SDL mode?

There has to be some sort of bug in Dolphin.. how can this be so persistent for me otherwise?

Can someone PLEASE explain the trigger threshold setting to me, as I managed to fix one game as I described by setting that to 100 but that doesn't work for everything and since then I have ripped my entire library and I'd say I have problems with at least half of it!

Surely there must be an "all in one" setting that someone can tell me or take a pic of for me of their controller config and tell me what controller they are using. If it works 100% for you I will literally go out and buy that controller as I just don't know what else to do.

Unless you are all using official GameCube controllers? If so, what adapter do you use? I have two official Nintendo GC controllers here. I don't mind using a wired controller.

Or maybe I shouldn't be using X input? I just don't know! Hence.. help.. please!
