I personally have a Asus graphics card. I don't know much on the ati side, but Asus makes some pretty good cards on the Nvidia side. How much is your budget? Both these cards seem very very low end. That 8400gs seems really low end. Whats the price on those; 30 dollars?. For nivida, I would say to get a 9600. Maybe a 9600 gt or for more budget get a 9600 gso. Price range on those are 30-60 dollars after mail in rebates. 8400gs seems to low for you to enjoy. I'm a Asus fan and they have not let me down. I use to own a Asus nividia 8500 gt and I can tell you that it can only play mid-high level games in medium/low settings at 1440x900 resolution. 9600 will get you to high but with no antialiasing or extra bells and whistles. Ati to nvidia is more about taste in my opinion. Price ranges fluctuate on both. I started on nvidia and Asus and have stayed the course. Someone else would prob know more on the Ati side of things for you. Newegg/tigerdirect/slickdeals is always your friend when looking for a good card for cheap. Hope that helps you some daraiocheca. You can always check my signature and see some vids i have with the 9600 and see if that would be good enough for you.
