I know this is probably a newb question, but are the latest revisions always better than the older ones? Sometimes, can a newer revision have less speed or glitches than an older one?

Are newer versions necessarily better?

No. Newer versions are not always better all around but they are USUALLY better overall.

It depends on your definition of better. Some people (me included) prefer accurate emulation, which is the main goal of this project. This means that from time to time revisions will be slower than previous ones, until they are fully optimized.
