AR/ Gecko Codes not working

Hello. I have a problem with the Super Mario Sunshine where when i try to use a code it does't work. I've manually inputted AR code for the 16:9 aspect ratio and 60 FPS and they are not working when I enable them. I also tried using the mute code from both the AR and Gecko codes to test if it was me inputting something wrong but neither the AR nor the Gecko codes worked. I would really appreciate any suggestions/ assistance anyone can offer, thank you. EDIT: Also hoe do patches work? Just curious and if someone knows it'd be a nice thing to know

Did you turn on "Enable Cheats" in the main configuration?
