APPCRASH when configuring pad

Just decided to give this a try, but Dolphin crashes instantly when I click to configure GCPad or Wiimote. I receive two APPCRASH errors, the first of which always references "pid.dll." This occurs both in the current revisions and in the 8 month old "stable" release.

I have read the FAQ and my C++, DirectX, and other libraries are up to date. I placed pid.dll in the Dolphin folder with no results.

I see no option to select a gamepad plugin in the configuration menu... is there no way to change to a different one?

Tried again and the stable release does not have this problem once I select "Dolphin GCPad Plugin" from the plugin selection menu rather than "GCPad New." The crash problem is caused by the "GCPad New" plugin. However, in the newer releases of the emulator the ability to change gamepad plugin seems to have been removed for no apparent reason.

Is there any way to manually force dolphin to use the older plugin? Why is the new one crashing the emulator?
Experimenting, it seems that this error ONLY occurs when I have my gamepad (Saitek Cyborg) plugged in to my computer (Win7 x64). Sounds exactly like this bug: http://code.google.com/p/dolphin-emu/issues/detail?id=2757 which was listed as "Fixed" but clearly is not.

I resolved the issue myself and am leaving this post in case anyone else encounters this problem.
The issue is a problem with the "rumble" functions of the Cyborg Gamepad driver. It can be resolved by editing the registry as in this thread: http://www.saitekforum.com/showthread.php?t=11338

thanks very much.
My Dolphin was also always chrashing with x64 and I tried anything. Could imagine, that this Saitek Controller was responsible for it...

This fix also works when you lose rumble in games such as Wind Waker
