Anyone got a 3DS with firmware 4.5 or lower?

Hi guys,

Title says it all - I'd like to get myself a 3DS with firmware 4.5 or lower. You can check your version in the system settings, where it should be displayed at the bottom right of the top screen. It would be beneficial if you lived close to Germany (Nuremberg), so that shipping costs don't defeat the whole point of getting a used model With regards to $$, you can name some price and I'll see if I can afford that. Cheap is of course appreciated

Background: As some of you might now, a number of individuals including myself have been working on a Nintendo 3DS emulator called Citra recently. Progress is looking great so far, with simple homebrew rendering just fine (open in an external media player like vlc if this doesn't play in your browser). However, some things are hard to implement properly without reliable hardware tests, and hence I'd like to get some real hardware for testing. The requirement for 4.5 or lower comes from the fact that these firmwares are particularly vulnerable and hence easy to work with.

It's VERY hard nowadays to get one that isn't on 4.5.

I'd suggest looking into your local store and ask them if they have a 3DS with those serial numbers.


Besides that, I heard someone on gbatemp (or was it wololo?) has been working on a new exploit for 7.X

I didn't know the serial was printed on the box, thanks for the hint

About local stores, the issue with that is that a used one would probably be cheaper than a new one. Hence I figured it'd be best to ask for a used one first.

The 7.X exploit being developed by Smealum? Thats for homebrew only since it doesn't give you kernal access, so it probably wouldn't be extremely useful for the work Neobrain wants lol.

Well, a used one with that firmware might be more expensive due to the demand for them, depending on the condition and seller.

And yeah, I follow smealum, fun to see some of the progress the guy makes. I hate how the community treats him sometimes though.... Its just stupid.

Do you need specifically a normal 3DS or do you not care if its XL?

Im only wondering since you could also try looking for mainboards with 4.X on them, you just have to be on the lookout on ebay for them.
