yea geohot and failoverflow are getting sued but the private key is out forever. THIS IS BIG (that key has never been found on any consol in history)

This means the ps3 is forever hacked in everyway possible. Anyone could sign any firmware with no problems. past-present-and future

any homebrew will run. And linux will be able to run better. The old "otheros" had no way to connect to the lvl2 hardware because of the supervisor. Now linux can use the full features of the ps3 instead of software limited hardware. Just wait a while and see.

the retard shouldn't have shared the root key if he was against piracy(or create any tools that could help with that purpose). but he did

fuck that. Sony should not of pulled a bait and switch. Removing features is bullshit. No otheros, no backwards compatibility anymore.

That private key opened up so many doors. I can't wait until someone ports over XBMC onto my ps3. Full codec support and addons. It'll be great.

i didn't say they were right to pull the plug on otherOS
imo that was their deathbed.
HOWEVER; the root key stuff was over the line. instead of using ti to create your own loader or OS (like team failoverfl0w -> asbestOS) he just dumped it out there for every pirate to get.
IF he created a different OS bootable from PS3 (or flashing) ; then you could also get all the stuff you just said MINUS piracy
so its a win win situation for everyone.
but no, he didn't play it that smart. he got what was coming for him and he's in for a treat.

What really sucks now is that instead of me getting asbestOS on my ps2 slim there are tons of backup managers and other crap I don't care about. It looks like linux is being put on the back burner now
