The subject title is pretty self-explanatory, are there currently any thoughts or plans on adding support for using VR controllers as a substitute for wii remotes? Surely the hardware for measuring all the calculations done by a wii remote is present in all first-party VR controllers and then some.

Dolphin currently supports the DSU Protocol, which is able to expose motion sensors for use with emulated Wiimotes. As long as you find a DSU Server compatible with the controllers you want to use, they'll work with Dolphin (you can find a list of known servers on this wiki page).

Besides DSU Protocol, there's an open PR with experimental OpenXR support, which is more oriented towards VR headsets/controllers...
