Hi,
I've sticked to Avira for years, but I'm quite disappointed by its latest developments. Impractical interface, continuous advertising and the umbrella tray icon that "closes" just to indicate that signatures are outdated merely 2 days after an update (while the tray icon alert should be used only for critical malfunctions).

I'm considering to switch to another free AV, do you have any suggestion? Or maybe I could keep Windows 10 Defender, is it that bad? I don't need browser protection or other sophisticated add-ons.

Thank you and bye,
Lurka

Native, do its job and nearly invisible.
From France with love.

In all seriousness, add another vote for Win 10 Defender. So far so good on my laptop.

I'm also using Windows Defender (that got renamed again to Windows Security Center). It's native, it's updated very frequently, and is completely silent (you only get notifications when something really needs your attention). Plus, current Windows 10 Insider Preview builds already have some cool nice additions to it...

I just use windows defender as well, only time I usually need anything else is if I work on a friends computer or something, I'll install malwarebytes to take care or viruses they already have.

I had similar issues in the initial updates of Windows 10 (versions 1511 and 1607). Since the Creator's Update, I haven't noticed any impact anymore, but it was also around the time I switched to SSD, so I'm not 100% sure...
