Another low FPS victim

Hi guys,

I browsed google for my issue (mostly ended up here), watched a few instruction video's on Youtube, tried a few older Dolphin versions, followed the performance guide on the Dolphin wiki. But, I still have low FPS....

I was playing Rogue Squadron and can't even get to the opening menu. Intro works at very low FPS.... My processor clocks out at about 60%.

My specs are the following:

Processor AMD A10-5745M APU with Radeon™ HD Graphics

Video Card AMD Radeon HD 8610G + HD 8500M Dual Graphics

Video Card #2 AMD Radeon HD 8500M Series

RAM 8.0 GB

Operating System Microsoft Windows 8.1 (build 9600), 64-bit

If needed I can provide more detailed info on the specs.

I'd say you're another victim of slow, inefficient AMD CPUs.

Your AMD CPU is simply terrible. Combined with the fact that Rogue Squadron is a pretty intensive game (IIRC), it is not going to work well at all on your PC. The only solution is to upgrade your hardware.

Edit: make sure you are using the latest development build, and nothing else. There have been 9000+ changes, including bug fixes, new features and performance improvements since 4.0 and 4.0.2. There's no single reason to use older builds at all, unless you want glitches and an unaccurate emulation.

Leolam, it seems I am also a victim of making assumptions. I assumed that this was somehow an issue of not properly calibrated software but it seems it's simply crummy hardware....

Guess it's too bad then for me. Will give that 4.0.2 build a try anyways....

Dolphin is already pretty optimised, and this is especially true for recent development builds (NOT 4.0.2) which are faster on the CPU. If you use 4.0.2, you'll probably get even worse performance.

Aside from having worse performance, 4.0/4.0.1/4.0.2 have completely broken graphics and other big problems in Rogue Squadron II. I don't think they even can boot Rogue Squadron III. You definitely need to be using a development build.

And yes, the Rogue Squadron games are very intensive.

Base on the data of Dolphin wiki . It's impossible to run that game on your laptop (not even desktop FX 8350 can)

You should aim for light-weight games like SMB Melee , SF Assault ....
Btw , I think you should update to Windows 10 via Windows Update . Your current DX11, OpenGL are slow , DX12(Windows 10) is much faster

You're trying to play one of the most intensive to emulate games in Dolphin on one of the weakest conventional x86 CPUs out there. There is NO way around that.

The best you can do is like admin89 said. Update to Windows 10 and use the DirectX 12 backend. I posted though to say as for settings, use stock settings mostly, change your backend to Direct3D 12, and don't push the Internal Resolution above 2x.

But no, you won't be playing Rogue Squadron at all on that CPU unless you enjoy lag, no matter what settings you use.

Now to be fair I did get RS2 to run great on an A10 7850k with a massive OC lol.

What frequency did you OC it to? Curious to see how much more frequency and power they need to match an Intel.

well 7850k starts at 3.7GHZ stock had to oc it to 4.5GHZ for the game to run well.
