I'm building an ITX HTPC build, and was thought dolphin functionality would be nice.

The GPU I've chosen is the GTX750 ti. But I'm stuck on the CPU, I already have an Intel G530, but I'm guessing it would be too slow, so how about an i5 3350P?

I'm going to be using Zorin OS 8. (Ubuntu)

We need to know what games you will be playing.

Mario Party 8, Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros Brawl, mainly party games. I have a proper gaming rig on another level, but I don't have any reliable way of connect to it, from the room I'm installing the HTPC.

This is what I'm considering now: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/Vbnyqs

I originally planned this build, to use my G530, but I don't think Dolphin will work well on it.

I'm hoping to running it at a sightly higher IR, and have custom textures on for brawl

I would get i5-4670K for MKWii.
Rig 1: Windows 10 Home | AMD A6-1450 @ 600/1000/1400 MHz | AMD Radeon HD Graphics 8250 | 4GB RAM | HP Pavilion TouchSmart 11.

Rig 2: Windows 10 Pro | Intel Core i7-2640M @ 780/2800/3500 MHz | Intel HD 3000 Mobile | 8GB RAM | Dell Latitude 6320.

I'm pretty sure MKwii is GPU demanding not CPU demanding. Plus he would most likely have to get another motherboard unless he hasn't bought one yet.

MKWii is CPU demanding when throwing in multiplayer into the equation.

/facepalm

I forgot about Multiplayer. Honestly if he's going to get a haswell system for a HTPC i would recommend a i3-4150. With a GTX 750 it should be able to play Dolphin games well.

hmm, so G530 is too slow, and 4670k is overkill?

If I go with G530 or i3, I will be content with min settings, but if I go for the 4670k or 4430, I want to play at several times resolution, with HD packs.

This is a dilemma, I have a spare a 4670k, G530, 750ti, R9 270X and R9 290X.

I was hoping to pair the 4670k with the 750ti, and the G530 with either the R9 290X
But it seems I"ll have a overpowered in one, and bottlenecked in the other.

I have an i3 4130 in another build, so I'll just buy another G3220 and swap it with the 4130.

Available for Pre-order atm :
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117374&cm_re=G3258-_-19-117-374-_-Product
It's based on Haswell architecture . Basically a lower clock / weaker integrated GPU - i3 without Hyperthreading (i3 with HT : 2 cores 4 threads , Pentium no HT : 2 cores 2 threads) . Since Dolphin is a dual core app , HT is useless

You must pair Unlocked Penitum with Z97 mobo and an aftermarket cooler like Noctua NH-L9i (low profile , extremely quiet and cheap) in order to overclock
http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/noctua_nhl9i/4.htm
Unlocked Pentium can hit 4.6GHz which is extremely fast for most games , even demanding games are no problem
http://www.digitalstormonline.com/unlocked/intel-pentium-g3258-review-and-overclocking-benchmarks-idnum298/

As for the GPU , EVGA GTX 750 will do 4xIR (2560x2112) on most games , 3xIR on demanding games . GTX 750 power consumption is only 55W (full load) , it's very efficient

I also recommend this EVGA 500W 80 Plus PSU(39$) . It's the best bang for buck PSU atm (btw EVGA is a decent brand with excellent warranty service)

(Well-known brand) Fractal Mid Tower Case USB 3.0(35$)

And last but not least : memory

Edit : You can remove aftermarket cooler option , stock heatsink is fine for 4.6GHz OC though stock heatsink = noisy
