Hey. First post here, but long time user. Smile

I have been trying to set up Dolphin Emu 3.5 x64 on my new laptop. Windows 8 x64, AMD A8-4500M 1.9GHz (Turbo up to 2.9GHz) Quadcore, 6GB of RAM, and AMD 7640G Graphics.
Yes, I know the A8 is not a true quadcore, that's not the issue.
The issue is that I can't even get 40FPS on this modern CPU+GPU. The game I am trying to play is super simple, Animal Crossing (GC). My dual-core Athlon X2 with Integrated AMD 4250 can get 60FPS no problem with this game. Heck, even my old laptop with an Intel I3 with crappy graphics can get 60FPS.

Is there something I'm missing in optimizing Dolphin? Or rather, my new laptop in general? Because I am not happy with the performance this is giving me. PCSX2 works perfect for Final Fantasy X, I get a solid 60FPS.

Thank you for reading, I look forward to hearing your responses. Smile

How have you been trying to set it up? What are your settings?

A CPU being new (modern) doesn't automatically mean that it will be good. That's what you're implying when you call it "modern".

How did you come to the conclusion that it's "super simple"? Are you familiar with how it's emulated?

Mentioning that some other PC runs the game "no problem" is not really helpful without more details about that PC.

Again, another random PC mentioned with no specific details about it.

Perhaps. You didn't provide your Dolphin settings so we really don't know yet.

Comparing some other random game on some other emulator is not really relevant.

I hope you still feel that way after reading my responses. Smile

In multi-threaded performance , 4 cores 4 threads A8 4500M is slower than 2 cores 4 threads i3 330M @ 2.1GHz
Trinity is slower than previous gen - Llano clock for clock
Dolphin is a dual core application
Even multi-threaded performance is bad , Dolphin likely use half potential of that CPU -> Slow speed is expected

It's a light-weight game . Even a Core 2 duo 2.0GHz is enough

In this case , PCSX2 use full potential of your CPU -> 60FPS is expected

Thank you for the clarification. Perhaps I will have more luck with future versions of Dolphin. Thanks again. Smile Have a great day.

Just post your settings so we can see if there is any room for improvement. Animal crossing is extremely easy to emulate and your athlon X2 should not be beating a 4500M. Is win 8 up to date?
