I know Super Smash Brothers is a lot resource hungry, I don't think I'm ready to give up this game.

Hhhmm. I am starting to think that the i3 will be best for dolphin instead of the AMD.. Hate budget constraints..

Still deciding.. Thanks for the info..

@kinkinkijkin, what is your specs?

Edit: Do we have any GPU benchmarks here? Was it the Wind Waker Benchmark>

Super Smash Brothers is really light. I play Brawl on my Athlon 750k ($80) on stock clocks and I get full speed.

Really? What's your IR and GPU?

For the midrange cpus (which is what you're planning on buying) it's just a 100MHz bump in clock rate and a 5% increase in price. The performance per dollar will stay the same.

HD 4400 is sufficient for 1x IR (480p) in heavy games and 2x IR (720p) in light games. HD 4600 is sufficient for 2x IR (720p) in heavy games and 3x IR (1080p)in light games. I would really consider bumping up to a higher model if you plan in using the integrated graphics processor for awhile. A 4330 (dual core, $140) or 4430 (quad core, $190) would be my recommendations on a budget. Both have the HD 4600.

Dolphin is a dual core application . So i3's Hyperthreading will not help you
Just get Pentium Haswell G3220 @ 3.0GHz (plus a H81 mobo) which is a downclocked version of i3 4130 (no Hyperthreading) . i3 4130 @ 3.4GHz is faster than top of the line of AMD : FX 8350 @ 5.0GHz in Dolphin Benchmark .
A10 7850k performs quite well in multi-threaded application and PC gaming but it's not made for dual core app like Dolphin .
Haswell is 30% faster than Ivy Bridge in Dolphin
Pentium G3220 will give you decent performance without a doubt
It's best to pair Pentium G3220 with latest architecture from Nvidia : Maxwell (EVGA GTX 750) . The card has super low power consumption while perform very well . You won't need a decent power supply for that card
GTX 750 can handle up to 4x Internal Resolution (2560x2112)
Keep in mind that you definitely need an i5 4670k @ 4.2GHz for some demanding games . Even though that Pentium is fast , it's not good enough to run demanding games full speed

You really have no idea how dealing with APUs on Dolphin is...

And how IS their performance, DJBarry? Last time I checked, Kaveri surpassed (if not crushed) Regor and my crippled no-L3 Deneb in every application, including Dolphin, meaning that my statement is very true. Though, I've yet to actually run the current benchmark. If it'll make you happy about this, I'll run it later and compare my performance to that of Kaveri.

Though, the thing about IR is only true if he gets a discreet GPU rivaling or surpassing my own. Not very difficult; 5770 was smashed by the 7770, at a lower opening price point and is now ~$80-100 (iirc), and nVidia's recently come out with an entry-level solution that's much better than that at a LOWER price. And the 5770 was already only $160 at launch.

Excluding the "faster" AMD APU models, their performance is ranged from more-or-less to abysmal (depending on the planned-to-play games, though).

If with that question you are referring to the models the OP mentioned (and higher), then the performance would be more or less (even having good power are still not enough for Dolphin, as other people said here). If you´re referring to models under that line, then the performance will simply be bad/horrible, and abysmal in the worst cases.

Im pretty sure that even Kaveri's calculations per core is better than his Athlon II. Yes, these APU's are not optimal for Dolphin, however im pretty sure they will run better than kinkinkijkin's CPU, especially OC'ed. If my Thuban at 3.6 GHz can run WW, SSB Brawl and Melee in most cases, Tales of Symphonia, and other games full speed on the latest dev builds, im pretty sure a OC'ed 7850K could do better.

The OP should just go with a better Intel CPU and wait to get Discrete Graphics later since you have said this is a budget Dolphin build.

DJBarry, AMD APU's can still run games in Dolphin, just not the heavy ones as said before.

Don't get me wrong . The A10 7850k can run most Wii/GC games with acceptable speed (especially when it's overclocked)
Either A10 7850k (require OC) or Pentium G3220 + GTX 750 will give him decent performance with Dolphin (I prefer the later one since GTX 750 is far better than any integrated GPU atm)

How does this sound?

http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/3k0iy

I was hoping to build up less than 500. I still got a couple of weeks to go. Hopefully prices will change.
