Why are we posting archive links to wccftech? I thought their only issue was sometimes posting completely unsubstantiated rumours, in which case it's surely better to link the ones with real information properly so that they can see that they're more popular, and do more of them.

Son this is a SPECULATION THREAD. Get your unverified sources and start quoting marketing slides as fact. We're going in.

Well in that case.  Zen is secretly an Alpha CPU with an x86 decoder bolted on.  If you install the fabled Alpha Win2K RC you can finally run Crysis.

Quote:AMD is claiming a 40% boost in IPC over Excavator cores, not Bulldozer or Piledriver.  Which on its own is impressive. For a highly competitive price, Zen CPUs could become a new option.

AMD has just announced that the Zen CPU meets all their expectations.
It's going to be a high-performance, competitive CPU with the best value for your money.
And with the latest patches, the CPU is already supported under Linux.

What I'm waiting for is the APU variant with next-gen integrated graphics and HBM2.

Well, of course AMD will tell you that their new chip meets all their expectations.  Why would they say, "Our new chip that we've poured untold resources into is a dissapointment"?  I'll wait for independent party benches before I believe anything that any company says about any of their products.  I do, however, think that it'll be much faster than all their current chips...and I do think we'll see Dolphin performance that is finally comparable to Intel Haswells...and if what they claim about SMT IPC increases are correct maybe performance that is in league with Skylake.  I'm rooting for AMD...but I'm cautiously optimistic.  I wish AMD had some guy or gal who is an emulator enthusiast that could give us a glimpse of what's to come.  Oh well...1 more year and it'll be Zen or Skylake for me...only time will tell.

Really?

I have an FX 8350 and it feels more on par with an mid range i5. I don't know that i3 tears the FX chip apart so easily, at the very least a high end i3 is on par with FX 8350. I am not extremely knowledgeable of processors but that seems to be my experience. The only game I can't not run on my FX 8350 through emulation or otherwise is Star Wars Rogue Squadron running on dolphin, that is embarrassing.
