Hey,
I've been using an sd.raw to store mod data for my Project+ installation. While it works fine in-game, modifying it is a bit of a hassle, relying on an external program such as ImDisk to get into the thing. If I were to play Project+ on my Wii, I could just insert an SD card with all the files easily available, and can even hotswap files if I pause the game via HOME button and eject the SD card.

Is there a way to replace an sd.raw with, say, a standard folder directory on my hard drive? The actual folder structure would be the same, but it would allow easier file management.

With hope,

Yes, if you update to the latest development version of Dolphin, this feature is available. I believe it will be described in more detail in the next progress report.
