allowing gamecube controllers to be used as a classic controller

Im just wondering if its possible to allow gamecube controllers that are connected via a nintendo wii u controller adapter to be used as a classic controller. I just got my gamecube adapter and was hoping to use my gamecube controller for both purposes of gamecube as well as classic controller.
