I'm just wondering if there is something else going on other than my rig showing it's age now? (i7 920 DO @ 3.8, GTX 970, 8Gb Ram, 1920x1200) using D3D11/12 every game I've tried so far on 5.0 is stuttering enough to make them unplayable if I switch to OpenGL however, I may see a bit of micro stuttering very rarely but otherwise everything is running great.. is there anything I can do (apart from upgrade my rig) settings I can change etc to improve the D3D performance?
All games running better using OpenGL?

Opengl generally works better for nvidia. I don't think it should be worse than 12, though.

You could put all the graphics enhancements to 1x and see if you're still getting slowdowns. If you are, then its a slow CPU. If the games run fine, that means your enhancement settings were too much for your GPU and you should turn up the enhancements until you see the games slowing down again.

Why not just stick to opengl then
![]() Or does it not support all enhancements?
......?????
OpenGL backend has fewer accuracy bugs AFAIK as well as being generally faster in many cases on nvidia (Except maybe D3D12? but even D3D12 isn't too much faster in some workloads)
Just use OpenGL backend if you have an nvidia GPU. |
