There's not really much "fundamentally" different with how an emulator works to any other game, it might just be luck that some emulators you've run are hitting an issue that happens not to be hit by anything else you've run. There are a few things that aren't commonly used in other apps though, which may point towards a solution.

First, make sure you're testing with the latest 'development' release of Dolphin. The 5.0 "stable" is pretty old now, and uses the word "stable" to mean that it's a known quantity that's not changing, not a comment on it having fewer bugs or higher quality in any way.

Many emulators use the OpenGL API to talk to the GPU drivers, while many games use DirectX. Make sure you have the latest GPU driver from the vendor website - the Windows Update versions often miss important things that Microsoft doesn't want to push (like OpenGL or vulkan libraries).

Assuming you have an antivirus app running, try disabling it temporarily and seeing if that can help. Many emulators do things (like generating code in the JIT) that can get picked up as "unusual" by antivirus heuristics.

If all the emulators freeze this could be many things... but usually:

1. Your overclock is unstable
2. Your ram is broken
3. Combination of 1 and 2
Check my profile for up to date specs.

It may be worth running memtest86+ anyway - it's possible that only some use cases will hit issues, and "bios" memory testers are pretty bad for missing issues.

Have you tried a "clean" driver install? Preferably by using the "Display Driver Uninstaller" tool first? I've hit a number of issues with partially updated drivers, especially when Windows Update thinks it knows what it's doing.

I also assume you've checked temperatures of various components using monitoring tools (cpu, gpu etc.) - while what is "safe" depends on the specific component, generally things over 90 celcius or so for GPU, maybe 80 for CPU, may indicate an issue. While normally things throttle instead of crashing, there's only so much they can do, and if there's a "quick" problem (e.g. blocked or incorrectly installed heatsink) it may not be able to throttle fast enough. And higher temperatures often make a "stable" clock less likely to be stable. Especially as some motherboards make it easy to 'accidentally' set, or even /default/ to, "overclocked" settings (like all the xmp profiles on ram, or PBO Smile
