It depends on what you plan to emulate, but you want to start by learning the CPU language and how the chip itself works.
:: System Specs ::
Operating System: Windows 7 Professional x64
Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 5770
CPU: AMD Phenom I X4 9550
RAM: 6GB DDR2
EXP Index: 999999.999999

I just want to be sure everyone here is aware of something before they use GlovePIE.

It has some very odd restrictions in the licensing agreement:

* You may not use this software directly or indirectly for any military purpose. This includes, but is not limited to, training, research and development, controlling military hardware, directing military personel, or troop entertainment. You may not use this software anywhere on a military base or vessel. This applies to all versions of PIE.

* You may not export this software to Israel, or use it in Israel (including the occupied territories), until Israel has ended its occupation of the West Bank, Gaza Strip, Lebanon, Syria, and anywhere else it may occupy.

* Missionaries may not use this software. It may not be used for any missionary purpose. Or any other genocidal purpose.

Don't believe me? Read the readme.txt that comes with the download (unless you live in one of the forbidden areas, in which case you are not allowed to download it.)
Use it if you like. But be informed. And note that there are alternatives to GlovePIE that do not have such restrictions.

lol, I don't like GlovePIE (it doesn't work for me Sad) but that license == funny.

There's an open source tg-16 emulator out there, you could look at it. It's going to take alot of work, though.

This is the forum you are looking for:

http://emutalk.net/forumdisplay.php?s=50f46ac3b908ee6254f0f5e28577fb79&f=30

The sticky threads are basically tutorials for how to make emulators.
