Wiis don't last forever so the fututre generation needs a way to mod or play around with old games in a world with no wiis at some point so this change could save the gamecube and wii community as not many wiis are cheap or exist as abundantly as before https://www.nintendolife.com/forums/3ds/what_is_the_lifespan_of_the_3dswii_under_normal_conditions "If you take good care of it, you can make them last 10 years easy enough."
