Action Replay Codes

Hello i have been having problems with the action replay codes in games when i play. Most codes use a Master code but dolphin doesnt use those and for some reason codes wont work if i dont have the master code. For example Sonic adventure battle 2, any code that involves changing chao or doing stuff like turbo and super jump do not work cuz they need a master code. I try them without the master code and they do not work. Also when using any cheat at all even if its just max health in TLoZ i lagg constantly going under 30 fps and the games go in slow motion. Any help?
