But nobody seems interested to do that and I don't have enough knowledge yet to code that myself, even if I'm motivated.

It's not really fair to compare Dolphin's to PCSX2's renderers. It's much easier to emulate the PS2's GS since it's basically just a fancy rasterizer, while the GameCube has a more traditional GPU.

I totally agree, actually was not a good comparison.
Still, maybe Dolphin SR could be faster, or forked into a "user viable" SR (more optimisation and sacrificing some accuracy).
From France with love.

Thus far everything I've read indicates that the software renderer in Dolphin solely exists for development purposes: by having a backend that does things as correctly as possible (and thus at terrible speed), developers have a more accurate baseline to compare the hardware backends against when people discover bugs in them. The software renderer isn't meant for playing games.

Yes, that's why I was suggesting to keep the accurate SR as it, and add a less accurate but faster one.

Dolphin's Software Renderer is less accurate than the HW renderers in most areas at this point. There are a few things it does better, but, it's missing key components of XFB, zFreeze and other features you enjoy a lot.

Would a faster software renderer help any regular user? I'm sure most people who have a powerful enough CPU to handle it would also have a powerful GPU, and if not, wouldn't the integrated GPU be better anyway?

It only exists for development purposes. A CPU that can run it full speed has not been found. The hardware backends and growing community have progressed to the point where the maintainers clearly don't feel a reference renderer in software is necessary anymore.
