Accidentally updated Dolphin and now previous save won't load correctly

Accidentally allowed Dolphin to update from previous and original v. 5.0-18498 to v. 18859.
When I tried to load save state, it says incompatible with current version.
So I saved all the relevant app user files locally from the old version and rolled back from 18859 to 18498.
Good news is that initially the game loads and all appears fine but then within seconds sound becomes all distorted and then I get a warning message: Invalid Read from 0x96a9cb61, PC=0x8012a158

Any idea how to successfully re-load the save rather than start the game from scratch?

Savestates are pretty fickle, and I don't recommend relying on them, do you have a normal ingame save you can use?
