I would love using the whole width of my screen while enjoying those games i love. Right now I'm playing Super Mario Sunshine and I've gotten help setting my dolphin up to speed but why doesn't the widescreen hack work properly in this game? Is there any way to fix it? I'm using revision 6505 and d3d9 after some helpful advice and my resolution is 1366 x 768.

I've attached a picture of how the game looks with the widescreen hack enabled.

Widescreen hack is a "hack". It isn't going to work perfectly for all games, such as Super Mario Sunshine.

Well I were just hoping that there was a way to fix the hack. Because it would be nice indeed, indeed.

You can't really "fix" a hack. :p
It is doing all that it can do.

The fix is to run the game in it's native resolution or aspect ratio, as has been stated a gazillion times before there is no way to fix the issues caused by the widescreen hack as this is a limitation by the game and game engine itself, i.e. a software issues that can't be fixed with the emulated hardware without hacking the game's code. This would not only be pointless/useless without the source code for the game, but such a task would be time consuming if it were possible to do.

I think it should be considered by the developers to remove the widescreen hack since it causes issues with games and we keep having to answer questions such as this stating it's impossible to fix. All games that support a native widescreen mode should work fine, so I don't really see a reson to keep this hack when it causes problems.

There is a way to set the aspect ratio without messing up the game, but it isn't true widescreen though, more or less it's just stretching or fitting the game to the window size/resolution.

I think this is going to far...I love this option and it works perfectly for every game I have. Currently playing ZWW and without this option its either play in 4:3 or stretched, both look bad on my screen.

I set the aspect ratio to 16:9 and crank up the resolution and it looks just fine, there's really no need for this hack. It may not be true widescreen, but it's better than the problems that the widescreen hack causes with some games.

I was about to start a new thread with my question, but this seems like a valid topic.

I'm looking in the per-game settings and I can't see an option to override the default "Widescreen hack" settings. This hack works good in a lot of games, so I'd like to use it for some and not others, but I don't see the option to do that. I do see that you can edit the config files of each game, though. Is there a line I can put in the .ini that would disable/enable widescreen hack for a specific game config?

I'd take that even a step further and suggest any option that is available in both the per game settings and in the Dolphin UI should be completely removed from the Dolphin UI. There's really no reason to have them in two places, per game is obviously more ideal, and it would significantly cut down on the over 100,000 possible configurations for any single game.
If the FPS is erratic, this option may help.
