A USB gamepad is not working in-game [Dolphin 5.0]

Hello
I have a generic USB gamepad which works with no problems with Cemu (I played Mario Kart 8 and Super Mario 3D World), but I can't make it to work in game with Dolphin. The settings tab sees the controller and I can map the keys but when I try to play Super Mario Bros, there's no input.
I'm on Windows 10 x64 and trying to play on Dolphin 5.0. What am I doing wrong here?

If you're trying to play New Super Mario Bros. Wii, you need to map your controller to an emulated Wii Remote instead of an emulated GameCube controller.

Yes, thank you! The input is working now. However, the corresponding movements are totally messed up... D-Pad arrow left is down, down is right, up is left, and A is 2...

Enable Sideways Wiimote (in the rightmost column) to get proper d-pad directions in this game. 2 being used for jumping/confirming is just how the controls are.
