Sorry for the Kotaku link; I didn't know they were that bad.
Minus the bankruptcy part you might be right NV. The eDRAM fab is shutting down so the WiiU's days may be numbered. If they open the floodgates of games next year then go kthnxbai good luck convincing then to buy a WiiNu.

This is tabloid journalism at best. Look at all the sensationalist terms they're using. "Life stone", "secret sauce", "vital". Ugh. Nintendo already announced that they’ll use TSMC to produce the eDram from now on. And 3 of the 5 factories of the current subcontractor will still be producing parts. This will have literally no effect on their supply.

@MaJoR

Speaking of that I've been on a quest to get a portable all-in-one handheld emulator mostly for long flights. I tried looking for android based handheld emulator systems but most of them were $100-200 and didn't seem to have everything that I wanted. There were a few decent ones that were based on kickstarter projects that were delivered to donators a year ago but none of them have hit the retail market for some reason. So then I looked into getting a used PSP. After reading about some of the issues (particularly the display) that the earlier models have and seeing that the newer models are around $100 used on ebay I decided against that option too. The sony ericsson was another option but that's also $100. So then I looked into getting a cheap bluetooth controller for my phone. After some difficulty deciding I bought two different models and decided I would sell whichever one I didn't like. I got the Ipega controller and Moga pocket. And honestly both of them have things that I don't like about them. The Moga Pro looks like it would have been the better option but it's much larger and it's $50. Plus it still has the quarter second input lag from bluetooth. It seems like turning my phone into a handheld console really isn't as good of an idea as I originally thought. The shape just isn't ideal. The only other option I can think of is the nvidia shield. Which is without question the best option but also by far the most expensive. Since I don't really need the horsepower of tegra 4 I would love it if they made a lower budget model with a tegra 3 or tegra 2.

Or if they just made a version of the moga pocket with bigger buttons and a D-pad instead of that horrible analog stick I would be set. Most of the bluetooth controllers seem to be designed for 3D games for some reason. And the ones with D-pads are mostly either way too small/uncomfortable or don't have a clip so they can't be attached to the phone. The Ipega is the only controller I could find with a Dpad that didn't fall into one of these two categories. Problem is it's still a bit on the small side, the L/R buttons are terrible and pushed right up against the back of the phone which makes holding it kind of awkward, and the clip is a nightmare. It seems you really can't cheap out on this. At least not if you're as picky as me.

The funny thing is, even saying that much is still an understatement to the DS' popularity :p

Wikipedia Wrote:As of June 30, 2013, all Nintendo DS models combined have sold 153.93 million units, making it the best selling handheld game console to date, and the second best selling video game console of all time.

So not just Nintendo's best system, but the single best selling handheld console ever (tops the GB/GBC which is no small feat) and even ranks in number two for game consoles made by anyone ever. Have I mentioned that my sister is completely absorbed in the new Animal Crossing game (so much so, that she abandoned the Wii one, which she played religiously up until a month ago)? We share the 3DS I bought, but I haven't seen it in weeks Big Grin

That's gonna change, once I buy the new Mario & Luigi game Saturday. Then we'll have to fight for it. Conversely, we find it eerie that we simply have no interest in the WiiU. We've been Nintendo fans since we could play games, and any new system was always something we looked forward to. The WiiU has been a big "meh" for both of us. It's not like I want it to be like that. I want good games to play.

This is pretty much the problem with the Wii U exactly. The 3DS has awesome games for it already. Hence why I got one when I did Big Grin. The Wii U doesn't have the titles yet. It just needs more and better games before it will get any attention.

You know, despite owning a DS for a couple years now... I have never played one of those. How are they?

I've basically been waiting for the 3DS since I was, what, seven, eight years old. I always thought to myself "it'd be so cool if you could have a Game Boy that could play 3D graphics like the N64". Now of course, it's more like Wii-level graphics, but I'm pleased with it so far. This is going to be an RPG machine this year (I'm looking at Rune Factory in addition to M&L: Dream Team).

They're actually really funny and witty games. The writers did a good job, even more so when you consider the text had to be localized and translated first. They're definitely worth getting into. They're the spiritual successors to Super Mario RPG in a way, and they go where Super Paper Mario and Paper Mario: Sticker Star badly needed to go (e.g. being funny and engaging to play). The combat is semi-realtime. You take turns attacking, but when you attack, you often perform timed actions and such. They're a joy, and still one of memorable games I've played on the system.
