4k Monitor Caps to 30 VFPS

Hey,

Trying to run SMG on a different laptop and monitor set up. When I don't have the laptop hooked up to the Asus MG28UQ it runs 60fps 60vfps no problem.

However when I plug it into the 4k it caps me at 30 fps and 30 vfps. Doesn't do this for any other games except SMG2 as well from my testing. When Dolphin is minimized it is running at 60 fps and 60 vfps - then when I maximize it bogs back down to 30 fps 30 vfps.

Running Geforce GTX 1050 SLI with i7 8750h so should be no problems there...Currently on dolphin 5.0-8913 - and had the same issue with stable 5.0

Any help would be appreciated, would like to see SMG in 4k at 60fps

When it caps it to 30FPS, that's what Dolphin shows, right? And at 30FPS, you're playing the game at half-speed right (slow mo)? I only ask because sometimes V-Sync on some displays + drivers can drop to 30FPS while technically Dolphin is running at 60FPS (basically, every other frame gets dropped). What happens if you mess around with your V-Sync settings in Dolphin and your GPU drivers? Does disabling V-Sync completely do anything?

Additionally, to make sure the issue isn't something to do with the GPU underperforming for whatever reason, try lowering the Internal Resolution in Dolphin and see if anything performance-wise changes. If it gets better at 1x IR, for example, that indicates Dolphin is pushing the GPU too hard for 4K. However, I believe the GTX 1050 shouldn't do that poorly with SMG2 at 4K, but your laptop might not be entering into the correct performance mode with Dolphin, causing it to be under-utilized. In Windows 10, you'll find options in your "Power Options"; make sure you're set to High Performance, and maybe be sure to plug it in to be extra certain.

That's right - it shows 30 fps and 30 vfps with slow mo sound and game. When I minimize it runs full speed 60/60. When I turned V-Sync on it ran 30/30 both maximized AND minimized. This is tested when connected to the monitor.

I've set everything to high performance, all updated drivers etc...on my MSI Dragon Center the GPU is at 24% when it is minimized and CPU hovers around 7% (this is at the intro screen). Then when I bring it back up it drops to 30/30 - I swear it's capped and not a natural limitation from the hardware not being able to keep up.

When I bump up the anti alias to 8xMSAA when it is not plugged into my monitor there is a big drop in performance - when I bring it back down to none it runs flawlessly on the laptop itself. When connected to the monitor none of settings change anything, always capped at 30/30. Something to do with the monitor and dolphin but no idea what...I'm clueless at this point as everything else so far ran brilliantly even with anti aliasing.

Edit: Just ran FE Radiant Dawn and it runs at 30 fps / 60 vfps when using the monitor. Without the monitor it ran 60 fps / 60 vfps even with 8xMSAA. Not sure if that helps.

Double Edit: I may be an idiot. I think HDMI won't allow above 30hz refresh rate hence limiting me at 30fps.

Triple Edit: Monitor says it has 4k at 60hz incoming but is displaying 4k at 30hz only. Still digging for info online.

I believe if your monitor supports HDMI 2.0, you should be fine. Otherwise, it wouldn't make sense that you can still get 60FPS when minimizing Dolphin.

Are you actually maximizing Dolphin's application window or entering fullscreen mode?

I thought I should be fine but turns out it's the intel UHD 630 causing the problems. I've read everywhere that while it says it supports 4k 60z it does not (it's running alongside the GeForce GTX 1050 on my MSI). I am going to go get the DisplayPort cable that came with the MG28UQ as the review says intel won't carry 4k 60z over HDMI, only with display port.

Tried making it mid size, maximizing, and full screen mode. I'm capped at 30hz because of Intel's poor advertising I'm almost 100% sure.
