It's a pity, I don't have a job, if I did that shit would be getting saved to get a new rig.

I now have a question concerning the ability of my processor. I read my processor could overclock up to 3.2 GHz, while I have read that clock speed doesn't always solve anything, how would this change the ability to have faster FPS?

Also, how much of a life span does it shorten by overclocking? And lastly, how would I adjust the voltage to handle the new CPU speed?

Overclocking do cost money , you need to buy aftermaker CPU heatsink (Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus) , aftermarket thermal compound (Arctic MX-4) and your motherboard(mobo) must support overclocking

Quote: I read my processor could overclock up to 3.2 GHz
You will gain speed up but keep in mind that the Phenom II @ 2.5 will beat Athlon 64 x2 @ 3.2Ghz

Quote:how much of a life span does it shorten by overclocking?
Base on my experience , overclocking won't hurt CPU life span if you do it properly
My E5300 @ 3.6Ghz is still working . 1 Asus mobo , 2 stick DDR2 Ram, 1 noname PSU only last 1 year
Replace -> 1 Gigabite mobo , 2 stick DDR3 Ram , 1 Cooler Master PSU

Would having the case open and having my fan turned on facing it help?

Imho, if you overclock, your CPU's life mostly depends on your cooler. If say, by overclocking you overheat your CPU, this will most likely shorten its lifespan.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Intel / AMD stock heatsink are no good for overclocking

That's one factor yes.

Temperature affects lifespan and voltage affects lifespan.

That's correct. 1st generation phenoms were barely better than athlon X2 in IPC.

Squall answered your question and then you shot him down. See:
Squall Leonhart Wrote:it means its K8 generation AMD processor

And he's correct. The + sign in the model number refers to the fact that the cpu is based off of the K8 microarchitecture.

I overclocked to 2.6(apparently that's the most I can get without the PC not booting at all) and noticed a very small speed increase. Then I started getting BOD's, I guess it's just not worth it.

... guy thats 8year old shit...
we are living in 2012...
nothing more to say...
5-6generations of cpu's you skipped and you are guessing to be able to perform the same performance? just with overclocking??
iam guessing that you are not working for now 4-5years? or going to school
smallest sandybridge rig would be at 300-400
