Really? What games are you playing? Depending on the game, this is going to be the case (I could barely raise MSAA past 4x on Xenoblade Chronicles with 3x IR, so I left it off) but not every game should be like that (Brawl, TimeSplitters 2, Wind Waker are GPU pushovers). If it's every game, then something is not quite right.

There's a performance regression with AA on some GPUs.

I play SSBB, SSBM, Project M, Sonic Adventure 1 & 2, FETongueOR, Xenoblade Chronicles, SMS, LoZ:TP, MP7, Kirby Air ride, Luigi's Mansion, Animal Crossing, and Bomberman Generations at 4x IR with generally no problems. The only strange game is MKWii which lags pretty bad with any IR upscaling which I'm guessing is a GPU bottleneck? But yeah adding any AA to that (tested with Project M and used the lowest amount, 2 samples) dropped the game speed to about 70%. Also tested TP and it dropped game speed to 60%. I'm using a MSI Radeon 7770 (this one: http://us.msi.com/product/vga/R77702PMD1GD5OC.html ) and this is true for both the stable build and the latest dev version.

Yeah, I don't think the stable build should be affected by the regressions JMC47 was talking about, so something is definitely up. For example, Animal Crossing shouldn't give you any problem. Could be a driver issue then. It sounds like you're using MSAA (or a variant) which is traditionally not very taxing in comparison to other AA methods, so something is definitely not OK. Have you tried any other PC games or emulators?
