Coming back to dolphin after many years, I finally got it up and running after a few nights of difficulty.
Ultimately installed a fresh copy of Ubuntu 18.04 as dual boot with just dolphin on. Used the latest development build from 3 days ago (04/06/2018).
I had bought a new mayflash dolphin bar based on reviews but was having huge difficulties getting performance and the IR functionality to work, so dig out my 8+ year old IR bar with home hardwired usb power and a variant of the recommended usb dongle (0a12:0001) that I fortunately had lying around!
With usb pass through everything works perfectly with my original wiimote (the old one, pre 2010).
Thrilled to have it up and running and to get my young daughters playing, I ordered a couple of 3rd party wiimote with motion plus, based on 100% positive reviews on Amazon, and nobody reporting any problems around connection. These are definitely of the newer TR01 type.
However, they're a huge pain to connect, taking 3-4 minutes of repeated attempts. And then after about 2 minutes they disconnect again. Both the same.
I've raised a query with the supplier, but was curious if anyone has any suggestions as original controllers are more expensive and given the nature of dolphin there should be a way to use 3rd party, and they're at least "supported in theory".
Any other details you need, just shout. I'd have supplied more, but my girls are currently taking turns with a single controller and still loving it!
