Hey guys, I have a C2duo with 2gb of ram running XP Pro with a Radeon. Would it be in my best interest to upgrade to a 64bit OS? If so, how much of an improvement would I see?

Thanks in advance and keep up the good work.

Not much, I suggest switching to 64bit OS only if you get atleast 4gb RAM Wink

There should be a sticky which explains the benefits and downsides to upgrading an OS from 32 to 64 bits. As InStars said, there isn't even a point to upgrade to 64 bit if using a medium range core 2 duo and 2gb of ram.

64 bit does not automatically = speed. Your hardware must be adequate too. If a system from 2007 gets 19 fps in games, it isn't going to rise up to 30 (or probably even 20) just because of a 64-bit operating system. Doesn't work that way..

Thats true ocean but also you have to consider that for now certain games run better on 64 bit (f-zero etc). That is just dolphin emulation side.

yeah, so if you're upgrading to 64-bit you can upgrade to 4gb while you're at it.

Also with most applications out there, you will not notice any difference going from 2GB to say, 12GB. Applications such as Photoshop or Virtualbox, and some emulators may benefit from more RAM.

I have a dual-boot between XP x86 and x64.
I've also got only 2GB ram.

Not taking into account the extra 300mb ram usage, x64 version doesn't need to be constantly tuned up or protected by AV's (maybe it's just me).
If you really intend to get a x64 OS to test Dolphin, go for it.
