Hello everybody.
Well, here I'm... a long time lurker, but first time poster on this forums. First of all, I would like to praise the dolphin development team and the modder community, for which we can always expect improvements and be grateful for the work done. Congratulations guys! I recently found out about dolphin, and became really excited with the idea of playing nintendo classics on my computer, so I researched a bit about the state of the emulator, the equipment needed... and all was going well until I decided to play Zelda TP (wii). I already knew from reading the forums, at least a little, about the hyrule slowdown observation and the ztp hack, but only payed real attention when the slowdown occurred with me. It's like the others reported before, 20 ~ 22fps after you unlock all the Hyrule Field areas. While I was researching a little more, I found out about the custom dolphin builds, like lectrode's. I tested and it really improved my gameplay experience, since I gained at least 1~2fps on Hyrule field using your build, but it's still not enought... So I would like to ask you a question before I need to take some hardware upgrade action: 1) I read on some threads that there are older revisions which works better with the ztp hack, and gives a little fps boost on hyrule field. Is it true? If so, lectrode, do you have a build which is based on that older revision, that could increase hyrule field's fps? Of course I don't expect miracles, but if I get some consistency gameplay with about 25fsp, that would be sufficient. Of course, to be more clear, here's my hardware config: Proc: AMD Phenom II X4 3.4Ghz NB 2600Mhz Memo: 2x 2GB OCZ BE 1600Mhz CL8 VGA: Nvidia GTX 560Ti 1GB HD: SATA 2 500GB/16MB buffer + 160GB/16MB buffer Monitor: AOC 17" About the dolphin configuration, I have your latest build (Dolphin-3.0-370-g31ff190_L102_x64_ICC), and it's have a properly graphic and general configuration for playing ZTP, based on my hardware and the research done in the forums. Also, please forgive some bad writing from my part, since english is not my native language and I'm still learning it. I would try posting in the Support Forum rather than the Development Forum. Could you post a screenshot? I learned the hard way when I was 11 that you ALWAYS need to back up ALL of your files LOCALLY. I lost everything that I had ever done up until that point, including my first website, 3 years worth of digital photos, and my first screensavers and wallpapers. I'm NEVER letting anything like that happen again. -Backup your files locally -I'm glad I don't have to go through the hassle of trying to retrieve my files (02-03-2012, 06:11 AM)blbrotto Wrote: I read on some threads that there are older revisions which works better with the ztp hack, and gives a little fps boost on hyrule field. Of course I don't expect miracles, but if I get some consistency gameplay with about 25fsp, that would be sufficient. The ZTP hack was incorporated into the main builds at r6057. It should be enabled by default, but if it isn't: -Right-click LOZTP in the game list and select Properties -Make sure ZTP hack is checked (not grey, not blank, not filled). The builds that I generally use are r2195, r6515, and r6727 r6515 is especially popular for playing games faster. Of course, you are always welcome to experiment and see what revisions work best for you 02-03-2012, 11:16 AM
Thank you Lectrode! I downloaded your build for r6515, with the ICC improvements. Man, I got 25FPS on Hyrule Field (all areas unlocked) using the PAL version, which is really more playable than the 20FPS I was getting before!
To be sincere, when I typed on google search about the r6515 build, the first page was about the fastest/stable builds for dolphin, in dolphin forums. So, I apologize for been asking something that I could have found by myself, if I had researched better. I have only one more question, if you may help me. I could expend some money (not too much) on computer hardware, and I'm between a new HD and some more RAM. Focusing on dolphin, what would be the better investment? If I buy the HD, I could setup a RAID 0 config, but I don't know how much this would impact on dolphin (especially in the case of Hyrule slowdown). For the RAM, if I invest in this area I could buy 2 more memory sticks, that would result in 8GB of ram, which I think would be enough. Anyway, thank you for the support! Finally I'm enjoying ZTP again! (02-03-2012, 11:16 AM)blbrotto Wrote: I have only one more question, if you may help me. Glad that's working for you I have never had to use more than 4GB of RAM. If you are looking for investments that will increase the game performance, I would look into either a more powerful processor or better graphics, but yours look like they should do fine. If you are adamant about getting new hardware, I'd go with a large hard drive. 160GB seems a bit small for a system like that. Unless hardware quality has significantly decreased since the Intel Core2Duo, your computer should be able to get full speed with any game that can be played full speed with Dolphin. Then again, it's AMD. I've always used Intel, so I could be wrong. AMD should be able to handle it though. It's been said that AMD is 90% of the speed for 60% of the price (in comparison to Intel). I don't know how old that saying is though. For more information on good graphics cards: http://forums.dolphin-emu.org/showthread.php?tid=18414 Minimum hardware and general good info: http://forums.dolphin-emu.org/showthread.php?tid=4 There was a thread dedicated to processors at some point, but I can't seem to find it right now. I could also be delusional 02-03-2012, 11:55 PM
Lectrode thx for all build!!!
You could copile the latest stable build Dolphin Git 3.0-408??? Thx man! 02-05-2012, 09:41 AM
Hi,
I'm new to the Dolphin emulator and a bit confused to what the difference is between the original dolphin on the home page and Lectrode's builds. Would it be better to get this one? Also, when I run CPU-Z in the "Instructions" box it shows "MMX(+), 3DNow!(+), SSE (1,2,3,4A),x86-64,AMD-V" so should I go for the "Regular" or "ICC Optimized" build? Thanks. 02-06-2012, 03:17 AM
