The Skylake i7-6700k will be best choice for your money. It is newer and faster in all regards compared to the i7-4790k.

It'll be able to run any game that's possible to play at full speed no problem.

Are you telling me that I need to start from scratch by getting something that might help for the program, because if that's a yes, okay then. The Z170A Titanium motherboard by MSI only supports LGA 1151 CPUs, and the best ones for Dolphin are 1150.

Last question: What GPU works 100% better, and would I need the "threading" thing for OBS to record while I use the emulator without any issues?

What I meant is that compared to the i5 that you also had as an option, it is better for you to go with an i7 (either the 4790K or the newer 6700K) because they have hyper-threading. As for the other features you are looking for, Quick Sync Video, Virtualization and 64-bit are all found on most modern Intel CPUs. Only hyper-threading is not available on an i5.

Intel has made quite a lot of improvements to their virtualization in the latest generation, so if that is one of your main goals, there's little reason not to buy the 6700K. If you only do lighter virtualization, then it's worth checking out if you can find the 4790K for a lot cheaper than the 6700K since in the end they perform very close to each other. Both are beasts and have no trouble with any pc game or Dolphin at least once overclocked.

You make it sound like there is a huge difference in performance between the two i7s, which is not the case. Sure, the 6700K is faster, but not by a lot. Here are a couple of benchmarks that can hopefully give OP a good idea of their performance (Dolphin, x264 video encoding, video conversion)

Okay, what is lighter virtualization by the way? And the 6700K is better than the others for Dolphin as well with recording with OBS?

So you are saying it's better to go with 6700K for Dolphin as well with recording? Will it run any game with no lag/slowdowns?

Even if the difference isn't huge, it is still better Tongue

The i7-6700K has 2 generations of improvements over the i7-4790K, so in Dolphin, its around 5-15% faster. Because the other cores are also faster, it'll be able to handle more CPU intensive tasks.
Of the top of my head, I can't think of any games that are so brutal that the i7-6700K won't run because of the optimizations that Dolphin has made over the years.

I'm saying that I think you'll be able to play every game in Dolphin.

Also, what is video conversion?

Doing video editing, or converting a video file from one format to another. It is a very multi-threaded task.
