Hey all

I scrummaged through my garage yesterday and found an old i5 2400 w/ an old motherboard to use for Dolphin instead of an APU I was planning on using.

I have about $130 to spend on some extra parts to make this build happen, and this is what I have so far
(I could use PC Part picker, but most of these parts are custom so I decided against it):

Sentey SS1-2420 Plus Slim Case w/ 500W PSU ($50)
4GB of Ram ($29)
80GB SATA HDD ($7)
VisionTek 5670 512MB DDR5 ($33)

Total: $119 (about 125 w/ tax & shipping)

Questions:

  1. I have an old GT 440 2GB DDR3 GPU. Is it worth the money for the 5670?
  2. Is the 5670 enough for 1080p emulation? The highest I can go is a 5750/6750 considering I don't trust the PSU for higher end graphics cards. Should I spend $20 more a 5750/6750? I don't mind turning down settings to get good FPS
Games I plan to play:
  • Any Zelda
  • Any Sonic Game
  • Any Star Fox game
  • Dragon Ball Z
  • Super Smash series
  • Game Cube Mario Games
Thanks!

GDDR5 is going to be WAY faster than DDR3

Note that the case you picked only supports low profile cards. That GPU wont fit in there.

So go for the 5670. Will 512mb be enough for 1080p?

Ah I think you're right. Let me find a low profile GPU and/or another case and post it here.
