I was meaning other than battlefield play for free, which is unplayable unless you can commit 2 hours a day to the game, or are willing to pay as much as battlefield 3 costs just to stay stationary (ie have a gun which bullets come out of the end, rather than little bits of metal which come out once every three second in fully automatic mode and fall on your feet, wildly missing the enemy who is three feet from you and standing perfectly still with your gun wedged up his nose) .

Quote:battlefield play for free Thank you for making me revise my statement: Try a FIRST PERSON shooter that isn't pay-to-win with no aim assist.

That's exactly my intention. I'm getting either a 2GB HD6950 or a 2GB GTX 560 Ti tomorrow, and will buy battlefield 3 once it is installed. I haven't bought it for pc yet because I don't want to trash my kill/death by playing it a 12 FPS with virtually no picture quality, which I'll get with my card.

Out of curiousity, I also installed the preview (in a VM, of course, what are you thinking!).
I'm wondering if Microsoft will really release this in a state similar to *this*. It'd probably be very funny... ;D Seriously tough, where's the point in that whole "fancy start menu overlay thing" (you know what I mean)? It forces its applications to be fullscreen, which sucks. It might be suitable for a media center, but not for a computer you want to work with. Also, what about that store? Do they plan to implement... a search function, maybe? How'd that be? Or a "close" button? I'm really wondering if I installed it correctly, I didn't even find out how to quit that store. Also, there's like five applications in there... This somehow reminds me of KDE 4.0. ;p 03-14-2012, 02:05 AM
After the fine piece of software that is Windows 7, there's no other way than downhill for Microsoft. I hope they prove us wrong.

Quote:Get the 6950 and unlock it to a 6970 This is annoying, because even though I know I can do this, I had been persuaded to go for the Nvidia card by the sheer prejudice of those I talk to at school (well, those who would respond to a question like this without getting a headache). At least I can now check if a 6970 beats a GTX 560 Ti in battlefield 3, as the Nvidia card wins without me changing the bios or overclocking.

If any of you care, as you can see I got the XFX DD cooled 2GB factory overclocked version of the HD6950.
Anyway, I see some people (most notably ExtremeDude2) are using Windows 8 as their primary OS. I'm wondering how you are holding up. All I've done is got it installed on a virtual machine then got bored, ragequit, booted it and got cross that nothing was there, ragequit, booted it with XBox controller attached, got cross that metro isn't actually pad compatible, ragequit, actually tried to use it, and installed Chrome, synced my Google data, used the internet, encountered something that didn't work and finally ragequit. Then I remembered that I've got about twice as much work as I have time before deadlines, so stopped (and found another distraction). Has anyone had a less ragequitty experience? Is it usable?
