What game doesn't have a thread?
If you can't think of one, you don't need to make a thread there. 11-18-2017, 01:06 AM
We've updated the necroposting rules to have more specific wording. It used to be:
Quote:Do not revive a discussion older than 6 months unless your post adds something meaningful or otherwise contributes to the thread. Please create a new thread about your subject instead. Threads violating this rule will be closed. Stickied threads, Game Discussion threads, and HD Texture threads are exempt, however, and users can freely post there regardless of how old the topics are. But now it's: Quote:In the "Dolphin Emulator Discussion and Support" and "Dolphin Site" subforums, do not revive a discussion older than 6 months unless your post adds something meaningful or otherwise contributes to the thread. Please create a new thread about your subject instead. Stickied threads and all other subforums are exempt, however, and users can freely post there regardless of how old the topics are. Necroposting is still bad though 12-11-2017, 04:49 PM
An update on our Forum Policy: posting polls has been disabled for every forum except the General and Delfino Plaza forums. The main purpose of the Dolphin Forums is to get help or discuss various topics related to Dolphin as an emulator. Polls only make sense in limited scenarios, and support-type question and answer threads don't really need them. So for ordinary users, making new polls can only be done in the two aforementioned places. Hopefully that should be suitable enough, because the General and Delfino Plaza forums are a catch-all.

We've added specific rules to the Android Forum:
Quote:Do not post misleading information. Do not make unsubstantiated claims about performance regarding Dolphin's Android version. Examples include posting videos as "proof" with no mention of exact hardware and specific settings or misrepresenting certain hardware features on upcoming devices (i.e. pure speculation). Such threads will be closed. Developers have the final word on such matters. The Android Forum has been quite lax in terms of forum moderation, however, with these new rules, hopefully that will change. 10-27-2019, 02:58 AM
We've updated the Global Forum Rules to be more explicit about our stance regarding custom builds of Dolphin. We've changed the following from this:
Quote:Regarding custom builds: We ask that users do not post about unofficial builds in other threads unless it can specifically solve an issue that the official builds cannot. You're free to talk about these custom builds in a dedicated thread, but do not advertise these builds all over the forum. If any build should be recommended, especially to new users, it should be from the official build bot here. to this: Quote:Regarding custom builds: We ask that users do not post about unofficial builds in other threads unless it can specifically solve an issue that the official builds cannot. If any build should be recommended, especially to new users, it should be from the official build bot here. Do not post or link to custom builds that do not provide access to their source code. Such builds violate the GNU General Public License under which Dolphin and derivatives must be distributed. Such content will be removed immediately. We've recently had trouble regarding some custom builds not providing the source code alongside the binaries/executables. This violates the open-source license Dolphin uses, therefore, we will take action. As long as the source code is available in some form, however, there is no issue. 10-27-2019, 03:15 AM
Just to clarify, this change in how the rules are worded doesn't actually change what you're allowed to do. This situation was covered by the piracy rule in the past, but it was far from obvious that it was covered by the piracy rule unless you knew the details of the license Dolphin is released under.

We've updated the Global Forum Rules about what types of content you can link to:
Quote:URL Policies: Do not link to anything (e.g. websites, videos, apps) that violates any of the above rules. Additionally, you may not link to any site or service that contains harmful, malicious, or intrusive content such as (but not limited to) invasive/deceptive ads, adware, or malware. Some further advice... Please be very careful and mindful about what sites you use to host content such as images, video, and other files. A number of hosting sites tend to have invasive ads. Avoid using "link sharing" sites as well, and rather directly link to a given download. You can ask here about hosting solutions that are free to use and we'll give some suggestions.
We've updated the Global Forum Rules to have more accurate information about how piracy bans work. The "Repercussions" for piracy were previously this:
Quote:First and foremost, breaking a rule related to piracy will result in immediate and permanent (sometimes two weeks, depending) banning of your account, and likely the deletion of the infringing thread/post. But now that part reads as this: Quote:First and foremost, breaking a rule related to piracy will result in immediate two month ban of your account (sometimes permanent, depending on the severity), and likely the deletion of the infringing thread/post. This isn't really a major change. Years and year ago, 2 week bans were the norm, but somewhere along the way, it got extended to 2 months. We've been doing 2 month bans by default for the past couple of years, so the rules have been updated to finally reflect that. |
