Y'know guys,
Prior to today, I had always been using only one type of controller for dolphin...my Xbox 360 controller.
But today, I received my new force feedback steering wheel in the mail, and wanted to see if it, along with my USB pedal set and USB Stick shifter(all separate PC hardware components) worked with Dolphin. I wanted to give F-ZeroGX a try so I opened Dolphin and went straight to the GC pad config menu.
To my pleasant surprise, all three of my driving components(wheel, pedals and shifter) were recognized! I was delighted to see dolphin flex its muscles in this department, and how it allowed me to configure or map a GC Pad or WiiMote function from ANY of my three controllers.
This meant that I could play F-ZeroGX the way I've always wanted to....using a high quality wheel and pedal set, and using paddle shifters to air slide left or right. My pedals are from CST and they are a three pedal set....gas, brake and clutch. Dolphin actually sees my clutch pedal and even allows me to use it as any GC pad function. So what I did was assign it to C Stick Up, and now I can use it to boost in F-Zero. Utterly fucking awesome! My wheel actually looks a bit like the one found on the real F-ZeroAX arcade cabinet. It's a Momo 27c butterfly style wheel complete with F1 paddle shifter and 6 buttons.
Playing F-Zero like this is a dream. I want to again give a very sincere thanks to those involved in developing the controller plugins for Dolphin, as well as all the Dolphin developers themselves(Skid, Lectrode, etc). You guys bring a lot of joy to those of us in the emu community. You are amazing and you deserve the highest praise!
Now, with that out of the way, I do have one small issue about the controller pad....
Dolphin's GC and Wii pad plugin's rumble setup menu does not recognize the force feedback motors on my steering wheel. It sees the wheel, but the little box below is simply blank. I have an ECCI 7000 FFB wheel that uses just the typical DirectX Input drivers and uses the standard Immersion Touchsense drivers found in all other FFB wheels like the Logitech ones. My wheel isn't anything unique as far as that area is concerned.
So is this normal? Does dolphin's rumble feature not support any FFB wheels? Or is it designed for Xbox 360 controller rumble only? Please let me know, as I would love to really FEEL the rumble from my wheel while playing F-ZeroGX. And yes, F-ZeroGX was one of the very few games that does in fact support force feedback wheels on the real Gamecube, so tehnically it should work.
Please let me know, thanks guys.
