After much hassle, I have finally got my game to work in Dolphin for the one purpose of extracting and examining a model. The only way dolphin work for me is with the d3d plugin and I have decided to use 3d ripper DX to rip my model (which appears right at the beginning of the game), but everytime I launch dolphin I get an error "failed to utilize direct 3d", this happens on both computers I have used. I've searched all over the web, but have found nothing to help my problem. I've tampered with the options, but once again to no avail. Dolphin runs fine without the 3dripperDX running, but crashes when i receive the error. I know It's possible to extract from dolphin so if anyone can help that would be awsome!

I've had a similar issue before with PSOne emulators. There's something about emulation, it doesn't actually render the models. Instead, it just simulates the rendering of models and creates a bunch of flat images that just look 3D, which is why it doesn't depend on your video card but heavily on your CPU. I tried the same thing trying to extract models from emulated PSOne games and once I finally did extract the models, they were only a 2D plane of the current view of the model (For example, if the character is facing away from the camera, you'll get a 2D model of the person's back.) I'm not saying it is or isn't possible with Dolphin, and I'm sorry if I'm misinforming at all, but judging from how it doesn't much use your video card for 3D rendering, there's a good chance that's the problem.
I'm not so sure that's my problem, because I get this message as soon as I start up any game. I just get this message and it crashes. I'm using Dolphin 4701 and the newest 3d ripper DX, I've tested this on both an XP and Vista with a high graphics card and always the same result. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I can also use 3dvia printscreen if anyone knows the settings\versions i need to rip my models. 04-28-2010, 12:12 PM
I've tried this on a third computer (and tested to make sure direct 3d 9 works) but I still come up with the same message! This is really frustrating, but what settings does everyone else have? I use an Intel graphics card, would that make any difference?

I tried using 3dVia to rip some models, but the characters are all messed up! I don't think it can rip anything that actually moves in the game. I just tried 3d ripperDX with an n64 emulator and it ripped the characters models the way I wanted them, so I think I need to use DX to rip the models, but I always get this error and crash on every computer I use!
